About the FAN Organization

Fund-a-Need (or FAN) was established as a formal nonprofit in 2014, for the purpose of providing financial and material support to local Peninsula seniors. The organization targets the 25% of our local seniors who are living below the poverty level, and its goal is to enhance their quality of life by providing goods, services and financial contributions designed to meet their specific needs.

We host targeted donation events that collect money and items such as clothing and equipment which are distributed to low-income seniors and our FAN Network is designed to “match” low-income seniors with benefactors.


We collaborate with other nonprofits and senior support organizations that have similar goals and we partner with local agencies  to raise awareness within our local communities about the plight of low-income seniors.


We deliver educational programs into local senior residential communities to ensure that seniors are aware of available resources. Some of the most basic resources are at their disposal and we want to make sure they are aware of them.

About The F.A.N. Network

Many nonprofits offer local residents with the chance to donate items such as clothing, furniture and equipment in a very generic way. While yet other nonprofits collect monetary donations that eventually translate into support for our seniors – though only after being filtered through administrative organizations and agencies.

Fund-a-Need is different because it offers a unique, one-of-a-kind style of giving — giving that is up close and personal.

As a local resident, you can do one of two things through the FAN Network: you can let us know about a low-income senior in your community who has a very specific need OR you can scroll through our list of local seniors until you find a senior with a need you’d like to meet.

So when you join the FAN Network you have an opportunity to both report seniors with needs, and help seniors with needs – both on an entirely personal level.

Sema S. Tosun

President & Founder of F.A.N.

Born into humble means and having to fend for herself at an early age, Sema Tosun is intimately familiar with the challenges of life. Having achieved a growing success in business, she now has turned her attention and her fight for those who are forgotten and truly helpless in our society – OUR LOW INCOME SENIORS. As vulnerable and helpless is a child, a low-income senior is that much more helpless and need all the support they can get. In this spirit, Sema founded the non-profit and have been tirelessly spreading the word.

Sema’s tireless passion to help the elderly and her devotion to charitable causes are decades old. For many years she tirelessly donated time and money to numerous local nonprofits. Currently, Sema works closely with other organizations like HIP (Human Investment Project, Inc.,) to identify specific financial needs.

Sema has continuously supported and volunteered in many Non-Profits in San Mateo County. Samaritan House, San Mateo Police Athletics League, HIP Housing, CORA, Boys & Girls Club, CASA & Second Harvest Food Bank. Through the county, Sema has been widely respected and recognized for her continued support and volunteering efforts to the local Non-Profits.

Through Fund-A-Need, Sema’s dream is to bring awareness and provide the framework for everyone to step up and help our low-income seniors.
