DESCRIPTION/BIO:

Arlene is from a small town in Iowa and moved to Southern California after working for the FBI in Washington DC during the war. Her husband, who served in the navy and was in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked, was ported in Long Beach when the war ended; she met him there, and they proceeded to raise their only daughter in a home they purchased in 1949. She lost her husband in 1989, but lived alone and independently for 23 years – staying active in her church, and other organizations within her community.

In 2012 she moved to Foster City where she lived with her daughter for 6 months before moving into a board‐and‐care home. There she remained happily for 2 1/2 years, but suffered a fall in 2014 that placed her in the hospital and later in a nursing home where she now resides permanently.

Arlene is extremely active mentally and enjoys corresponding with family around the state via her iPad. But she lacks vibrant human contact. Most of her fellow residents in the nursing home are either mentally challenged or bed ridden, so what she needs most is 1‐ on‐1 social interaction and mental stimulation. Arlene loves to play games (like UNO and Sorry) and has these games in her room. She’s also up to learning new games! A monthly visit for purposes of interacting over a stimulating game for 1‐2 hours would make a big difference to this senior!
